Superconducting Electrical Propulsion System Modelling (Airbus)

Project objective

Development of a simulation platform for electric drive systems for aircraft with superconducting components.

The project extends the existing simulations to include a very attractive future application of electric flight. In detail, the benefits for us result from the extended simulation possibilities:

  • Combined thermal simulation of the cooling fluid (liquid nitrogen or liquid hydrogen) in the individual components and in a cooling channel of the superconducting electric drive system.
  • Modeling of flight missions in normal operation. (Long h time frame)
  • Modeling of critical situations for the electric propulsion systems and failures of individual components. (Short ms time frame)
