Project objective
The overall objective of MEESST is the design and development of a first proof-of-concept of a magnetic shielding device to mitigate both thermal stress and radio blackout during space entry. The following sub-goals are planned:
- Enhancement/verification of modeling tools for heat flux and radio blackout mitigation in entry plasmas.
- Design/fabrication of a cryostat-integrating superconducting magnet for experiments in plasma facilities.
- Heat flux and radio blackout prediction in air/CO2 plasmas with updated modeling and experimental tools.
- Validation of modeling and experimental data results without and with the magnet.
