Project objective

The extrapolation of the discontinuous processes of the ITER-DT fuel cycle to DEMO would lead to excessive tritium inventories. For this reason, the concept of direct internal recycling is being further developed into a validated technical product and a basis for the DEMO concept design with a low tritium inventory in the area of 'Vacuum Technology and Fuel Cycle Technology' within the framework of EUROfusion. This includes the validation of the key technologies involved, i.e. metal foil pumps, Hg liquid metal ring pumps and Hg diffusion pumps, for the DEMO-DT fuel cycle conditions through simulation and experimentation.
