Applications of HTS CroCo
The HTS CroCos can be used as basic elements for high-current conductors. The size, number and arrangement of the HTS CroCos can be selected to suit the application.
Large high-field magnets require the highest possible current density, i.e. the HTS CroCos are arranged as compactly as possible. An example is a conductor from a study for future fusion magnets in which the HTS CroCos are stranded around a central core. The HTS CroCos are guided in a steel sheath so that the high forces occurring in the magnetic field can be absorbed. Here you can find more information on the use of HTS CroCos in high-current high-field applications, e.g. in fusion magnets.
For DC power transmission cables, the field of neighbouring HTS CroCos should be kept as low as possible, as this additional magnetic field reduces the current carrying capacity. As a consequence, a circular arrangement of the HTS CroCos used is chosen. Here you will find more information on the use of HTS CroCos in high-current DC applications.
